Gail Trimble
A worthwhile celebrity at last (if that's not a contradiction in terms).

Yes, hte articles in last weeks papers were very interesting ineed! Very few were accepting her for who she was and aknoweldging the fact she was very bright-intstead attacking her for not being what most of the press attack about 'celebrities' these days! i.e dim, blonde, concerned about figure/clothes and falling out of clubs which is what they make their name from.

There seems to have been an awful lot of jealousy about, from the thikos who can't stand the thought of someone being very bright, and normal-looking at the same time.

And to make things even more fun, one of her team has graduated and is working as a trainee accountant for |Price Waterhouse Coopers. Not that he had much input.

Re: Gail Trimble
Actually the same thing happened to me in 1966/67. I was chosen in good faith because I was planning to do a postgraduate course, and had been accepted for it. But by the time of the second round, I had definitively failed to secure any funding. I made this abundantly clear to the producer, who told me not to worry, no one else would.
Given that Corpus Christi has a pool of 400 to choose from, and Manchester 40,000, I don't think this sort of quibbling is very edifying.
I don't think University Challenge goes in for seeding, but it looked that way: from the outset, these two teams were head and shoulders above the rest.

Seems that her team may not win after all as one of the players already had a job...
