With my own children, we tried to choose names thaat were not easily shortened, and to avoid obvious innuendo !
It didn't work ---- Rupert Edward Sean -- became ROOP and Marcus Frederick Guy became MARKY
Elder Grandaughter was named Zoe--- which are her initials Zoe Olivia Evans -- she is now 35 and likes it !
The Younger Grandaughter, now 33 and twice a Mum was named Lila Joy --- they couldn't be that clever twice !
I think that whatever you choose, the child won't like it at first --- why couldn't you call me Fred ?
My Mother, who died at 95, hated her name Winifred--- and insisted on being Frederique -- or Freddie !
The name , was, it appears, not "IN" for Flappers in the 1920s !

Of course my own name is Maria Virginia....

Maria as it is classless, ageless & international... I AM a self-fulfilling prophecy having married a foreigner, having a child at 40 and having no class whatsoever

The middle name simply indicates that my mother had high hopes for me... maybe I should call my son Jesus?? :?

I've always liked the name Arthur. If I'd had a son, that's what I'd have called him.

Well, you did ask ! :D

I looked at englishangel's link to the Finnish boys names site. I was trying to find a name that could be both Finnish and English and I came up with Tommi (or Tomas) :) I think it's a lovely name!

I liked Henri, or Henrik, then only one set of nametapes required as both have the same initial.

If we'd ever had a son, he would have been Ryan.

For "Lonelymom"------ Yes Thomas is fine, but beware --- John Thomas --- remember "Innuendo" !

My Mother remembered a girl called "Pearl" --- fine -- but her surname was BUTTON !
Also a girl named "Poppy" born on Nov.11th

Speaking as an Ex- C.A.B. Advisor ----- Common Law states that you are what you call yourself the only responsibility is to inform the NHS, Taxman,Bank, Council etc. which you may do by Letter.and, if you wish, a notice in the local Paper
No need for Deed Polls, Commissioners for Oaths, Etc. (The Legal Brethren will hate me !)

I always found this a great relief to newly- divorced Ladies, who wished to revert to their Maiden Name .------
Yours Sincerely (Sic) Charles Darwin !

The Finnish X Factor winner in 2008 was Koop Arponen.

You could always name the baby after him

What???? I didn't even mention the name John! I am completely aware of the innuendo of John Thomas, maybe that's why I didn't and wouldn't have suggested that name, just Tommi (or Tomas). I'm totally confused again! Englishangel - HELP!!!!!!!!

I think JR is becoming a bad influence.

We had some friends who had a son they named Thomas Richard Henry. No joking

I used to work with a Mr Brian Thomas, known as 'Bri' to everyone. After knowing him for months I asked him why his initials were JBT, and he quietly told me that his name was John Brian Thomas, but he didn't was to be called Mr John Thomas!! It didn't stay a secret for long... :)

What have I said now ?

Incidently - I'm known, almost universally in the football world as 'J.R.' I doubt more than 50% of the people I deal with actually know my Christian name.

(Should that now be ' Religiously Universal Fore-Name' ?)
