My son ( a second former ) had new DM's and they didn't cause any blisters. As to his tracksuit he wore it a lot in the colder months and wore it to away matches. He is in the 'D' team for football and rugby and they played in a lot of matches. He also needed it to keep warm when he was a sub. So don't think that because your son ( can only speak from a boys perspective ! ) isn't sporty he wont be playing in matches because he will !! The biggest waste of money is cricket whites.
Had to buy them for this term refused to buy the school shirt and glad that I didn't has have seen that as he isn't in the A or B team he wont have any matches. So the whites are only going to be used for sports lessons unless he gets promoted or has an unexpected match which isn't published in the school calendar.
It is very simple, it is your childs summer job - in they want to go to CH they need to learn to sew..............
I did all the ones that are very visible - on collars of PE kit etc, daughter dearest did the most of the rest. When she had to redo some at easter she learnt to do them much better. She also discovered that all the pants/socks stay together and come back to house together so you just fold the name label in half and stitch the ends down together.

I may well be being dense, but I don't understand this! Please explain (& I may then save myself some work... On one level I agree completely with your approach but there is no way I'm letting my DS loose on my sewing machine )
So it is now a shorter rectangle, sew the open short ends onto the garmet creating a loop.
It is not as easy to read the label however for stuff that doesn't get mixed up with other houses it's not so bad because the first name and bit of the surname is enough to sort the items.
Ah, now I understand! But I think it shows the difference between girls and boys - my DS would never have worked out that those things stayed together... (actually it's probably genetic - I don't think I would either..)

I believe that the school needs to alter the the wording for the cricket kit on the standard clothing list that it sends out (it even confused me this year as there were not any crested cricket shirts being sold by Broadbridges!) but unfortunately realised this too late. It will no doubt be changed for next year's new entrants and I will suggest that a separate letter is sent out to the existing pupils which clearly states who needs what. The last thing that parents need at the moment is to waste money on unnecessary kit.
In the past, nearly all the boys played cricket matches in the summer so needed whites, but now if they are not in the A / B squad they do not need them. They are allowed to go to practices and inter-house matches in either tracksuit bottoms or white shorts with a white top (can therefore be their polo shirt). They will obviously still need a box and the pants to put it in.
The Thrift Shop has quite a lot of cricket clothing for anyone who needs it.
