Wild Parties
Last Night, our quiet Close was visited by three Police cars, with flashing lights and sirens, at about 2am !
Anne and I slept through it all ! not because I have a clear conscience, but I do like my ZZZZ
It turns out that the young (20) man opposite, whose Parents were away, had thrown a Party, which had got a bit "Out of Hand" resulting in one of the Guests, who objected to being told, by his Host to go home , had put his fist through the windscreen of a car -------- His OWN car ! ---- small shreds of glass all over the roadway !
My reaction to all this was, perhaps, untypical. I had some admiration (Being an ex- Boxer) for a punch which could shatter a windsreen, and also I felt sorry for Tom, who was sweeping the road, the next Morning and cleaning up and tidying the house --- in the sure knowledge that one of the "Twitching Lace Curtain Brigade" would inform his Parents, on their return and he would be "Grounded" for Life ! !
I think we all forget how irresponsible we all were at that age, (What JR ? never !) and I recall, at 20 stealing a skeleton from the local Army Hospital in Tel el Kebir, and putting it in the Colonel's 'bed------- I did more "Extra Orderly Officers" than I care to remember.
Are we too censorious about this sort of thing -- if no-one is injured, or distressed ?
I wonder if the same mad games are played on Mess Nights ? or is the Army now so politically correct as to forbid sooty footprints, on the ceiling and High Cockalorum ?
Comments ?

The trouble these days are the social web-sites, where information on a private-party can get well out of hand.
I feel sorry for your neighbours son, who probably did all in his power to control the situation.

Looking at my nephew's Facebook, (he has a double whammy as he is a medical student AND being sponsored by the Army) 20 year-olds are still the same, thank goodness.

Re: Wild Parties
I had a party once when my parents still lived in the Peele A housemaster's house... they were on the cricket and netball tour to Barbados as was my sister, so I invited 70 of my closest friends... Luckily, nothing untoward happened, except a couple of years later, mum was looking through some of my photos when she noticed a rock band in the back garden, with the drum kit sitting on the living room rug...
