Re: Blondie's wedding extravaganza!!!
We attended a family wedding on Saturday.
The venue was Wakehurst Place near Ardingly and both location and staff were excellent.
You may well already have a venue by now though!

I know Wakehurst place very well, its not far from my venue, my parents go there a lot and it has lovely gardens! Dont think its best suited for an October wedding when rain is VERY likely

Re: Blondie's wedding extravaganza!!!
well this week i saw the mock up of my invites, been kindly made by a collegue of my dad's! They are just beautiful, I welled up slightly at the sight of them! Its also made it rather real that in just over a month I shall be sending these invites out-the lead up to the wedding has begun

So you'll be needing all of our addresses then, Amy? Just how many forum members are there? Hope you'll have enough stamps...

Yes I confess that I am an inveterate soaker of stamps not franked properly, and they (such stamps) have stood me in good stead in the past. I still have a stock of them in a plastic wallet in my purse. But I have noticed the new stamps and their central piece which would not stand soaking and re-using. OOh dear!
Back to topic.. do you see The Times, Amy (I mean today's Saturday Times)? There's a huge article about the cost of weddings and the new trends in e.g. buying copy designer wedding dresses from China, at a fraction of the cost.......and other things to do with the cost of weddings not only for the bride and groom and their families, but also for the guests. Glad I am not contemplating matrimony ---- at the moment!

blondie95 wrote:well, i personally found the wedding related aspect of yesterday one of the best things since wedding dress trying on......Gift List compilation. There we were John Lewis in Bluewater with our little zapper wandering around and zapping away! Its was so exciting, standing there looking at the whole selction and not just thinking about what you need becasue you have broken the last one etc and get best quality for best price!!! Oh no....however I did havea moment of dizziness when i saw the price of some of tha pans and cutlery sets I was looking at! £400 for 30 knives, forks and spoons!!! honestly!
What had me and the h2b in hysterics was just as we left the gift list area with our zapper a couple turned up to carry on as they ran out of time yesterday!!! Both our faces at the prospect of this taking two days and not the 2 hours we imagined were a picture!!!
And actually its a lot harder than i thought it would (esp given the shopper that i am!) A lot of time was spent deliebrating over just how 'good quality/special' we wanted dinner servcies to be, my arguement is too special would mean we would never ever use it, I wanted a dinner service i could use with out panicking everytime i picked up a plate in case i smashed it!! Also its important to ensure you have a good spread of prices on your list-which was difficult!
And now i keep thinking of things and popping online to add them!
And the right things at the right price. I remember a friend's wedding years ago where they had chosen a very expensive set of china or cutlery (can't remember which). Sure, there were things in all price ranges, but it looks rather mean to give just two teaspoons or a side plate, however expensive they were

Re: Blondie's wedding extravaganza!!!
well with ours you can buy all 6 plates for £30 so i dont think its that bad
My brother went to a friends sisters wedding evening recpetion last weekend, went on list to buy a gift what was left was 8 silver napkin rings and a £600 tv, so he thought he would go for the napkin rings only to find someone had already bought 4 so he could only buy the other 4- he thought it looked a bit daft two different people giving half a set each

The Curate was escorting the local Duke around the church fete.
Duke: What are those things?
Curate: Napkin rings, Your grace.
D: What are they for?
C: The middleclasses use them.At the end of a meal they put the napkin in to use again at the next meal.
Duke: My God! I didn't know such poverty still existed!
