Re: Up t'inf
I've suffered from kidney stones in the past but have never heard of a floating kidney. Any explanations ?

Me too! Hurts, doesn't it? I thought I was in labour, it was so painful!! Until I WAS in labour, then I remembered that hurt more. Anyway, I googled it (as instructed by Philip) and it said that it usually affects 'young women, usually women who are thin and have long waists' so that rules me out on all countsJ.R. wrote:I've suffered from kidney stones in the past but have never heard of a floating kidney. I thought that the usual thing was to shatter them with some sort of zapper, so that they would either 'pass' naturally or be reabsorbed?

That is one method used if the stones are of a certain size and make-up. (There are basically two types of stone).
The other way is inserting a stent, (under GA), then breaking and grabbing the stone in pieces through.........
You pee blood for 24 hours after and the pain is worse than actually having the stone.
The stent is eventually removed WITHOUT GA at a later date. One of the weirdest sensations I've ever experienced !

Thank God I passed mine naturally, after being kept on hospital bed-rest for 3 days (with a catheter - yuk!) and being forced to drink copious amounts of water to flush them through!

Would anyone like to hear about my intestinal problems and anal fissures in Pakistan? You only have to say the word...
I don't know, for people who are scared of spiders, you seem to have very strong stomachs!

Eeeeerghh, no thanks Philip! This is going to be one time (probably the only time) when I'm not going to be begging to know more! I was just about to eat lunch, but the thought of your problems down below have put me offAjarn Philip wrote:Would anyone like to hear about my intestinal problems and anal fissures in Pakistan? Well, I have had investigations for *n*l f*ss*r*s and it is Not Very Pleasant. Especially when conducted by a beautiful 'hunk' of the opposite sex.
I draw a veil over it.
But wonder if it is significant that I had to log in again to view this thread?!

I'll tell you this much - 'twas in Pakistan in 1987; the doctor said very politely, "Ah Mr Underwood, please be so kind as to remove your trousers and mount the examination table as if you were praying to Allah."
It was at that point I had an idea this wasn't going to be a bundle of laughs...
