What Sounds & Smells Instantly Transport You Back to CH?

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

I've recently heard Mendelssohn's 2nd symphony a couple of times-I didn't know it before, and there suddenly was "I waited for the Lord" and I was immediately back in the chapel at Hertford.

So did he plagiarise himself?
'I Waited For the Lord' is from his oratorio 'Elijah'.............(I think....)
I wonder which came first?
Gosh, Maggie, you might have stumbled upon a Great Crime!!!

If I remember correctly, chocolate bunnies were alleged to be in the gym on the night of the last day of the month. Depending on who was telling the wide eyed new girl the story could grow more fanciful. In my time Miss Park and Miss King would always back the story if anyone asked either of them. I think Miss King even claimed to play the fiddle for them, if she was feeling generous!

Sticking and licking was mending textbooks and cleaning class rooms, labs etc at the end of term.

That description of licking & sticking is good but the chocolate bunnies in the gym still means nothing to me... of course I do have a lousy memory! Unless it changed over the years... any inspiration yet, Vonny?

I think that the chocolate bunnies only applied to 6's, and given that Maria was in 6's at the time of the merger, I would suggest that the practice had already died out by the time she was there? If it had anything to do with Miss King and Miss Park, it's probably pertinent to note that they left before I did (1966).

I had always assumed chocolate bunnies were school wide. They made life richer!! I never heard of anyone actually going out in the middle of the night to see - and be disappointed. Of course we all claimed to have been there!

Well Jo, you weren't there in my time! Your answer shows it wasn't just Sixes, perhaps it was our side of the square?

I think the idea of "Chocolate Bunnies" is wonderful !
I believe that all small children need a little "Magic" in their lives ---
I have convinced two small neighbours 5 and 7, that they can open and close my Garage by clapping their hands (My hand being in my pocket !) and just lately, another single Gentleman, across the road, joined in with this "Magic" and asked them how he was going to get his car out, if they didn't stop closing the door !
The Parents are all in on this, I shall be sorry when the kids grow up to understand radio control !

You might be right about the 5-8 side of the Square! At least these Houses (Wards) backed on to the school field rather than the hard surface 'playground' (ha ha). I am afraid that I have no personal recollection of the chocolate bunnies, even from when I was in 5's when it was a junior house. Help me out here other 1s - 4's -Vonny, Mary.....?

I seem to remember the phrase but not the application of it. So perhaps it was talked about but not by us.

I remember chocolate bunnies but not what it entailed!

Sticking & licking was basically the name for the last "lesson" with your form mistress from what I recall. It involved sorting out books and tidying desks I think. I don't remember mending books but that doesn't mean it didn't happen!

In my time sticking and licking definitely involved actually mending books with the kind of sticky tape that needed literally to be licked - I can still remember the taste of it. It wasn't even very practical in that it didn't last long. Perhaps we should amend the name of this thread to include tastes?

I rhink while I was there we converted from that brown sticky tape which had to be licked to Sellotape as I remember both.
