You will be happy to know that he is well, putting the final touched to his "El Animado", and driver and car willing, will be at CH on Saturday.
I know since I was out on the boat with him yesterday, am writing this from his house, and will be driving us back to London tomorrow.

However, the itinerary is set and the crew mostly in place. I shall hope to continue to post on that site throughout and you are welcome to register as a group member if you so wish, and want to have a blow by blow account. In the fullness of time, there will no doubt be reports and pictures here and, as there are a number of Blues sailing - one current and quite a few Old, the Editor may well allow a piece to appear in the Old Blue.

Departure date is June 20th when I set sail for Scilly with an all female crew (alas, too well chaperoned by my formidable younger daughter). We are joined (somewhere in SW Ireland) on 5th June by my wife, Judith, son Oliver, and two Old Blues - Gemma Newlands who will be very newly hatched as an OB and Miles Russell.

I am very pleased that nearly half of those sailing One Thousand Isles are Old Blues or friends of CH in one way or another. We range in age from a current Blue aged 18 (she came last year) to one very geriatric Blue, which all goes to show that whatever our ages, we are all in the same boat.

Just 18 days to go!

We are getting there - the aft heads is mended, Judith has put in some clever pipeage to make the generator happier and I have commissioned the water maker.

We are all getting tremendously excited, and we are sorting out El Animado polo shirts, rugger, tops and hoodies. Two OBs who are not coming this year but have sailed before have actually ordered hoodies.

I have been wondering whether there is time to design and make a CHC&SC burgee (Christ's Hospital Cruising and Sailing Club) before departure - I think not. What a pity ..... but if anyone has any bright ideas ........ ? As vice-Commodore (un-elected) I am entitled to fly a swallowtail burgee from the masthead - I think the CHA logo would look great, especially with so many OBs aboard.

On Saturday 20th June I set sail with five lovely ladies bound for SW Ireland via Scillies. We shall probably arrive in Kinsale around 24th/25th before rounding Mizen Head (Ireland's SW extremity) and sailing up into Bantry Bay where Judith and Oliver, plus Gemma Newlands, Christian Collins and Miles Russell (current Blue, young OB and older OB) are due to join ship for the 580 miles north to Barra in the Outer Hebrides. Jonathan and Chloe (ex Gr W and Gr E) join there arriving by air on a Flybe scheduled flight at Low water - the only airport in the world where planes land on the beach.

If anyone is interested and can tell me how to do it, I will try and send daily reports to a blog. We have internet aboard - it's the blog bit I am unsure about!

I would have thought that an "AFT HEAD" was a contradiction in terms------ but they may build Craft differently these days --

Of course Sunseekers -- which are built where I live---- have a complete Dressing Room Complex ! fore AND AFT !

Ah yes - I see.

These lovely ladies are of different ages and backdgounds - one runs a national health trust, one is an artist, another is Director of Music Strategy for the UK, and yet another is a radio presenter, another is a journalist on the Daily Telegraph. The youngest is 18 and the eldest is of a certain age.

An interesting mix into which I shall stir a hefty dose of Old Bluedom once we reach Bantry Bay.

Yes, Neill - you are, of course quite right - heads no longer is used with the accuracy prevailing in the days of sail

Oh dear! I could have expressed that better."Accuracy" was used in the sense of common lexigraphical usage rather than mere aim - but I do insist that "gentlemen pee in the ladies' style" on account of the uncertainties of wave induced movements.
