Marmite v. Bovril - surely an old chestnut in every household? Can't stand Marmite, as I just find it too salty. Always ate Bovril as a child, often with those Dairylea processed cheese triangles. I found some Bovril here recently, but it seems to be one of those things I've outgrown, though I still get the occasional urge. Also, you have to keep it in the fridge, and therefore, to get it to the right consistency for spreading, you have to take it out of the fridge about an hour before you need it. My urges don't work that way unfortunately...
Re: SPIDERS!!!
I love both Marmite and Bovril, but only on toast, and only on white bread toast. I can't even begin to imagine what either of them would taste like with processed cheese, but I think it would be something like this
I don't keep my bovril or marmite in the fridge, I didn't even realise I was supposed to, but even now I won't because they'll make my toast cold!

You don't need to keep Marmite, Bovril or Vegemite in the fridge unless you live in the Tropics or other warm, wet, placeslonelymom wrote:I love both Marmite and Bovril, but only on toast, and only on white bread toast. Skimmed over an article in our local daily earlier in the week about a new product that is Vegemite combined with cheese, and my immediate reaction was

To bring the thread half way back on topic, our poor Spyder (alpaca) was euthanased this afternoon. He was attacked by a dog that my daughter was looking after for an ex-friend last Thursday. We thought that he was going to pull through, but he took a turn for the worse overnight and deteriorated rapidly through the day. RIP Big Fella.

RIP Spyder.
Lonelymom, I am happy for you to hang onto the frogs, at least until we can provide alternative accommodation. The new shed is taking time - last weekend 5 tons of hardcore was wheelbarrowed through the house (we are terraced), next weekend it will be concrete, then the shed will start. The shedbuilder is a workmate of my husband's so only available at weekends, so it will be quite a lengthy process. Please nurture the frogs in the meantime!

Re: SPIDERS!!!
Jan called me into the garden yesterday.
One of our flowerbeds had plants absolutely covered with webs.
Each web must have contained over one hundred very small baby spiders. In all there must have been over a thousand little ones ! Must be a good year for their breeding.
Flies Beware !

JR, I somehow suspect that Lonelymom will not be pleased to hear that! Do frogs eat spiders?

Here is a DIRE WARNING !
Do not buy, or consume Diabetic Chocolate, Diabetic Marmalade, or anything else labelled "Diabetic "
under the mistaken impression that they will be better for your slimming diet ---
These all contain -- as a sweetener SORBITOL.
The result is, inevitably , the "Squitters"

Re: SPIDERS!!!
We had those sort of webs over our water butt a couple of weeks ago. I was going to tell you all about it, but then I thought you'd just tell me I was nasty because I got a broom handle and pushed the web into the water butt! All the little baby spiders were swimming for their lives, some made it back to dry land (well, the edge of the water butt), but others weren't so lucky. Before you all say it I know I'm horrible, I'm a wicked, wicked person, but all I kept imagining was every one of those babies turning into big scary adults. Sorry baby spidersJ.R. wrote:Jan called me into the garden yesterday.
