I never minded the mud ---- but to this day, I loathe RAGWORT !
During the War, Scouts spent their Camps doing something "Usefful"
We, of 10th Salisbury, were permitted, by the Farmer, to camp at Little Durnford, in return for pulling up acres of Ragwort (which is poisonous to Cattle and Horses)
No amount of "Gingganggooly" will ever erase it from my mind !

Oh, it'll come off, don't worry. Just make sure that it's not jeans. There were a worrying number of cases of J***s on camp this year - tut tut!

RMH (I'm glad it's not RMS after the Royal Mail Ship Titanic - ouch). Just hope the mud never comes off.

Without seeing your post I was today discussing with a doctor (one of the top specialists in her field) and a senior nurse - FRCN, OBE etc. etc. the whole subject. They agreed without hesitation that mud, scratches, a bit of dirt in food etc. is actually an excellent thing for children.
Kids generally have a good immune system, recover quickly and getting all sorts of bugs ensures that they have resistance to a wide variety of microbes / bacteria etc when they grow up. Living with a SWMBO who did not get those bugs in youth means all sorts of medical emergencies (the last was 2 nights ago).
Interestingly, a site for Americans coming to live in France warns them that they WILL become ill within 6 weeks - the afore-mentioned doctor reckons it is for the reason cited.

So. RMH, although the mud might not look nice, think on the positive side. Also, did she enjoy getting filthy?

Of course you get ill in a new place, the infections are different, but they affect people differently too.

My daughter caught swine flu from her (tested and diagnosed) housemate in Canterbury. Two days last weekend wrapped in a duvet watching the Open and she was fine.

We also think son (at home with no contact with sister) had it over the weekend. IN his case his two days were in front of the computer. Husband is now having the second of two days in bed watching GOLD, and is only not going to work because he travels on the Tube and one of his colleagues has an immuno-suppresssed wife.

Other son and I appear to be remaining healthy. (so far)

As you say, Mary, they affect people differently. I think your husband should be staying at home if he thinks he has swine flu, not just because of his known colleague but also about the unknown people he could come into contact with during the day. (and not just on the Tube)

Ah, Mary I misunderstood you. I thought you meant he would have gone to work had he travelled by car, say, and not known about any compromised colleagues. Now I think you meant that he feels capable of working but would rather not infect any others.
