Re: Best wishes to all the new second form
Just phoned the house master to find out that he is basically finding it very hard but is being very brave. Want to go down and bring him straight back.
Have sent 2 letters but none have got there due to the postal strike (local to us so nothing being collected). HM said if I sent an email to him but written to my son then he would print it and present it as a letter which is good.

Good luck to all of you getting through the first term. It's so hard! I have felt like driving down to bring my son back just for my own sake this week, but he has just phoned and sounds so happy. it wasn't always like that and I think the sudden immersion into CH life can be quite a shock. Is your other daughter able to help with the homesickness lonelymom? I suppose they're all so busy, but it must be a bit better having a sister there...?

Yes please!
He may be 'brave' but he needs a hug from his mum

Re: Best wishes to all the new second form
To be honest, no. She seems a bit embarrassed by her sister making so much fuss. My eldest didn't ever get homesick and launched herself into CH life immediately and has never really looked back. My youngest is a bit more of a home-bird (if that's the right word) and I knew she'd take longer to settle in. I had hoped my eldest would be a bit more supportive, but she just appears to want her younger sister to snap out of it; I don't think she can understand why her sister isn't loving it as much as she did from the outset!MidBMama wrote:Is your other daughter able to help with the homesickness lonelymom? I have sent an email to his house master which he will hopefully get tonight. He is a quiet, sensitive soul so hopefully he will feel better knowing all is well with me. Tried to word it so it wasnt too positive. i dont want him to think I am having the time of my life without him but also want to reassure him i am ok. it has been only the 2 of us for 11 1/2 years so think we are both suffering now.

Has it occurred to anyone that if your children are in a position to send e-mails then they are probably also able to access this forum?

Not sure that they would have any idea that such a forum existed. Most parents dont seem to know. If they can access the internet they can access all sorts. Am not sure what your point is?
Re: Best wishes to all the new second form
When my daughters are online they can't tear themselves away from facebook, they wouldn't be at all interested in reading their mum's boring messages

Have a good trip you two! but I suggest don't stay too long... Re. the sisters, I do remember my sister and I not having much to do with each other at school and embarrassment playing a part. I suppose it's more complicated than just the support of having a memeber of the family there. And siblings can be so different...

YadaYada, this really rings a bell with me as I am in the same situation and it's something I didn't think would effect me as much as it has (being just the two of us for 11 1/2 years, that is). It sounds as if you are ok, and I hope you have lots of lovely friends and a nice job or something to keep you busy. When my son goes back to school it makes me realise how much my life revolves around him when he is here, and I'm afraid I still haven't got used to it after two years! When they are happy it all seems really worth it though, and I must learn to be independent! help! after all, in a few years' time they'll be off to university or whatever
P.S. my son has never mentioned the forum, and I would guess most of them are too busy to bother surfing the net to that extent - actually I think their computer access is quite limited (I hope!)

Have lots of lovely friends and a reasonably nice job (am a teacher in a secondary school!)
Want so much for him to be happy. Am trying to be pragmatic....realise that he wont necessarily settle in after only 2 days but dont want him to be misearable for any length of time. I do understand the no speaking rule and do agree with it but it doesnt mean it is easy for any of us.

I am very aware that my daughter may find this forum, I really wish we could have a private parents only thread!!!
I hope all you "child sick" parents will be okay soon. I think it was about 6 weeks before I stopped crying most days.

Not from the school network they can't. It's so tight to prevent them from accessing sites such as Facebook. (They are meant to be working when on the computers!) Even the staff are having problems on this front at the moment as the system seems to have been tightened up even further over the summer.Fjgrogan wrote:Has it occurred to anyone that if your children are in a position to send e-mails then they are probably also able to access this forum?

Like someone else has mentioned, during the holidays they are far more interested in catching up on Facebook than anything to do with SCHOOL!

I seem to remember that certain sites were banned at CH at one time.
Might this have been one of them ?
