Just one thought, really - these threads tend to flow like normal conversations. How's that going to happen if people have to start a new thread every time they have a an off-topic comment to make?

I agree that threads which people might visit in order to find information, or to discuss 'serious' issues such as, for example, the CHA, the arms trade, Fiona Bruce etc. should be kept more or less on-topic, but let's not try to get too regimented. I don't think it would really work, and I'm pretty sure that the moderators wouldn't want to spend their time considering the topicality of every post.

They probably have better things to do.

Yes - that's it. Exactly that! Leave a little note about your diversion (the word has a double meaning) and go to the diversion thread. By its nature it is likely to be a little zany and well occasionally, perhaps, a little rude! Those that do not want to be distracted by such foolishness will not and should not go there. So everyone is happy! :)

well I'm not sure it makes sense - surely each thread will need it's own divert thread. If we stick to just one divert thread there will be too many different conversations in the one place and it won't make any sense.

I'm prepared to give it a go though, I know I'm guilty...

I think that people just have to be sensible nd try to keep the smut etc out of the serious threads - otherwise, (epsec in the NON-CH forum) we can divert as much as we like...

But I honestly don't know what thread I'm in once I've clicked 'post reply'. I know no one believes me but I don't.

And when I post at work I might click post and then have to do other stuff and I come back and I think I must be in the smutty thread and then it turns out I'm not.

If someone can explain this to me I will do my best.

I'm the same - unless its that mallet thing.
Now, for example, I wanted to pick up where I left off an hour ago - but can't remember where it was.
Also I wanted to argue with HT who said that Ruth was holding a chicken - when I reckon its a giant rabbit.....(or I like to think it is).

Well when I get a little confised - a not uncommon occurence as you no doubt realise - I scroll up to the top where it says what thread I am posting in. This is a good standby check.

However, if I am quoting from one thread into another (such as with a divert where it is essential to convey a little bit of the thread you are diverting from otherwise it doesn't follow properly), it gets a little more complicated. Then I wrap my head in a warm towel and, instead of scrolling, I zoom around using the forward and back arrows of my browser until I think I have arrived back at the place where I started from (if that indeed was where I was trying to get to and assuming, of course, that I have remembered where it was I was trying to get to in the first place.)

Do I make myself clear?

Now now, boys and girls, a little levity seems to be creeping in here. That will never do.......!

what how where??? where at the top does it say?

for example, as I write, it says

Unofficial Christ's Hospital Forum Forum Index -> General Chat - Non CH

it doesn't say I'm in the 'Help' or 'Why is it that...' thread or wherever I am.

no it doesn't. there is blank space under the drum once the 'Post a reply' window opens.

reply to this and as you are typing what an idiot i am, look under the drum, no thread name.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE will someone find or create that coffee snarfing little man????!!!!

Just for the record, I think I agree with Ruth - the divert thread, although a good idea, would get so confusing if it was being used, may I use the word in this thread? "willy-nilly" - but then I`m female too. !

You're right! I'm sorry. Now reply to this and as you are doing it use the back button on your browser and all will be revealed.

N.B. Before you ask, Ruth, don't forget to use the forward button after you have looked or you will be lost again.

The divert is more to say something smutty. Is it 1t or 2? The times I wanted to divert last night was incredible.

Oh shock horror, It would appear that I have let DBTS down. sin sin sin sin.
