Posh School
Just seen this in the Manchester Evening News
X FACTOR shy boy Shaun Rogerson could be given nerves of steel by the man who transformed England rugby hero Johnny Wilkinson.
Shaun, 17, from Wigan, touched the hearts of X Factor fans with his brave but timid performances.
Despite his battle with nerves, he almost made the final four of the TV talent show. But Shaun is now being offered expert tuition to harden-up his personality.
Mark Russell, an economics and cricket teacher at the posh Christ's Hospital school in Sussex, says he was so moved by Shaun's performance that he wants to help him work on a "visualisation technique", which helped make Wilkinson the best known name in the world of rugby.
Cricket master
Mark, who was Wilkinson's cricket master, said: "One way of coping is to train him to perform the audition many times, successfully, in his mind, so that for him it is like watching a previously successful performance. His stress levels are then under control and he will show his true ability."
Are we posh and didn't know it?
Who is Mark Russell?

We had a thread about this on Hertford Memories see viewtopic.php?t=985 I think any boarding school is necessarily posh in some people'e eyes.

ah yes Lord Wandsworth where they bred Jonny Wikinson-you want to know anything about him then im your girl i was you could say obesessed by him at school-prior to te world cup!
Anyway yes, my bf thinks im posh, but thats partly because i speak well and don't have any form of regional accent-how could i i have mved near enough every 6 years and have lived in places with public schools, Dulwich Village, Oundle and now Christ's Hospital!
But also our uniform makes people think we are posh as apparentl we would have to be poshto wear that!

well if you think about it, CH is posh in every way except for the income of the pupil's family, and even then there are some definite posh parents. even the ones who aren't rich are often 'fallen from grace' rich families that played silly b*ggers with the stock market and lost half their cash. they are used to the 'good life', can no longer afford it and so turn to CH.
still not convinced? look at the cars that turn up at every leave weekend.....

I rapidly lost my public school accent after leaving, and after working for plod became more working class.
Up North, I'm always asked which part of London I come from. (RR and Mrs C can confirm this !)

I had quite a Sussex accent when I started, which really you can now only hear on voicemail, (thank you Jane) but when I went to the US I got really posh, I suppose as a reaction to the accent over there. When I came back I bumped into an old friend from CH (and also from Sussex) who said how posh I sounded. Now speak RP I suppose.
When I was at Hertford and my Mum told a friend she had been to Speech Day she was asked if she didn't feel out of place at that 'posh school'. She said she did, she was by far the smartest person there and the only one wearing a hat. Not true but it took the wind out of a snob's sails.
