the jazz musician was interviewed on the wireless this evening.
His father was a talented musician apparently ...."who went to Christ's Hospital School and was captain of the orchestra which was no mean feat as the School is excellent for music".....
His father encouraged him with his musical interest as a boy although he started out as an actuarial trainee, failing his exams at 22 before becoming a full time musician and linking up with the late Lonnie Donegan amongst others.
I wonder if he meant that his father was Band Captain?
My musical knowlege is distinctly lacking but I've never heard of an orchestra captain.
