Ruth's (Ruthie-Baby) Wedding

Well, Ruth got married last Saturday at the little parish church in West Grinstead to Dan (who co-incidentally is my mother's bridesmaid's son!)

It was a lovely and moving service - the church is beautiful and set amongst some fields with only one or two houses for company. The service was BCP which meant there was much 'plighting of torth' etc but the language fitted the surroundings. Ruth's old choir from her church in Streatham sang at the service and they were brilliant - including a wonderful rendition of Tallis' 'If Ye Love Me' and a new piece of music composed for the day. It was also good to see my parents who had just flown back from Barbados where they had been on cricket tour with the school.

After the service, the Broadwood Morris Men were on hand to dance outside (Dan is a member of the Morris - Ruth is in the Magog (female Morris side). This lasted for about 2 and a half dances before the weather finally broke and it chucked it down...

Undeterred, we made our way to the reception venue, Rusper Village Hall where we were entertained by more Morris dancing (inside this time) and a folk song about how blustery April is (couldn't have been more apt really!) The first dance then followed, (another Morris Dance) with bride and groom dancing with both the Broadwood and Magog (with Mum now in her Morris gear as she is also a member!). This was then followed by a good old roasted pig on a stick and much ale and a barn dance with the music provided by 'Little John' Dewdney (Dan's Dad) and his band...

i saw some pictures on facebook and spotted plum's mother in all her dancing regalia-it looked like a fantastic afternoon....although not 1 picture of mr plum dancing

I wasn't dancing at that stage - I needed more ale... but I did dance in about 6 dances I think!!
