Eurovision Madness

Ok I know it's cheesey and we're never ever gong to win but Eurovision is such a laugh!! I thought Latvias entry was a classic!!
If anything I feel Eurovision is there to remind the people of Europe how things should be, and mostly this year with Russia winning we were reminded how much we need electricity and heating!!
It also reminded us that too much time in the sun is a bad thing as Spains entry taught us, beards will never do you any favours especially if you make your back up singers wear them (this especially applies to all female back up singers , France!) and having a washing line included in your routeen will ensure you many Eastern Block votes!!

Did anyone else watch it with a bottle of wine in front of them, maybe you even had a party or sweepstakes? It's all a bit of fun!!

Even Sir Terry sounded p*ssed off last night. How DID Spain get more points than us?, Oh yes, Andorra, Portugal and San Marino voted for them.

We went out and watched a decent band in our local club.

I sat through it and found it hilarious-since when has Azerbijahn an European country and how did that wierd song do well along with the bosninan and spanish one.

And Terry's comments at then end about him questioning doing it anymore made the news along with another comment i believe of his which was that the western european countries may have to re-think their particiaption in it when it has become so eatern eruopean neighbourness driven.!

I was at my cousin's wedding so didn't watch it...

by all accounts it was rigged madness... even with Andy Abrahams doing a pretty decent job, we still came last... what's the point in us being part of this (and bankrolling much of it!) if we never stand a chance...

Sadly the Eurovision Song Contest doesn't get screened in Thailand, which, as I'm sure you can imagine, leaves a deep and unfillable hole in my life. I can just about remember Sir Cliff winning with 'Congratulations'. The contest, as a true contest, was crap then and it's crap now (though I thought Clodagh Rogers was <sigh> wonderful), but for some reason it's always been good tv, and there is the reason why we still take part. What amazes me is that so many people care one way or the other!

Sadly the Eurovision Song Contest doesn't get screened in Thailand, which, as I'm sure you can imagine, leaves a deep and unfillable hole in my life. I can just about remember Sir Cliff winning with 'Congratulations'. The contest, as a true contest, was crap then and it's crap now (<sigh>though I thought Clodagh Rogers was wonderful), but for some reason it's always been good tv, and there is the reason why we still take part. What amazes me is that so many people care one way or the other!

Sandie Shaw, who actually won the thing with "Puppet on a String" roundabout 1967, was the daughter in law of the landlord of my old local on Shooters Hill and would turn up for a drink there from time to time when residing in Blackheath.

Ah, but he didn't! Well, not at the time, anyway. There's been a bit of a furore here because it's just been revealed, thanks to the publication of some papers or other under the 40 year rule, that Spain's win that year was due to Franco bribing other juries, thus denying Cliff his rightful win.

Pleeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssse. We have had a few decent songs in there - some are mentioned elsewhere and there are a few that on first listening didn't sound much but with repetition became good (Gignola Cinquetti (sp) in 1964 as an example - I could have used her song name as my nickname here and confused peeps even more!). Would we have heard of Abba without Waterloo? In my view both those deserved to win, whatever you think about Abba's hogging the charts thereafter.
