Dentists
I just have to share this with you...i am hopping mad over it!!
Myself and the h2b went to the dentists a year ago....couldnt find an NHS one so went to the local practice privatley. All was fine, we went for the check, they took x-rays of my teeth to check my wisdom teeth (i had to have one out due to it growing up on its side). I was told IF there was any decay etc they would call me and get me back in!
Well i never got a phone calll, so have spent the year thinking my teeth were fine.....went to the dentists today to find they had changed dentisits etc and was told sorry but you need 6fillings!!!! They had my x-rays from last year in my file and showed them to me.i should have had 3 done last year and probably could have prevented the others from appearing!!
Im furious, that i now have to pay a lot more than i would have done!!!! But there is no one i can show my annoyance at....the dentist and nurses in there now replaced the last set!!

Complain to the Dental Council, the previous incumbents had a duty to pass on your Records and inform you that the Practice had changed hands

I hope you have a bank loan.....I went to the dentist last week for a check up. That and ONE filling cost £44!

Re: Dentists
I had a similar experience a few years ago Amy
Had been going for regular check-ups for years , no problems at all.
Started getting awful what I thought was sinus problems that didn`t go away and eventually went to dentist dosed up on painkillers.
Discovered my dentist had retired and so was allocated to a new one .
He told me the problem should have been easily noticed at my last check up and that perhaps the now retired one hadn`t been the most competent (well he didn`t exactly SAY that, but it was clear what he was hinting at!) -
Several lots of expensive treatment followed!
I was annoyed too as the fairly major problems I`d had could probably have been avoided if picked up.
No wonder i don`t like going to the dentist`s!!

Re: Dentists
I can't believe the price of just a check up on the NHS these days
On another note - I discovered on NYD I have a wisdom tooth coming through at the grand old age of thirty something!

Re: Dentists
Struth, neither can I! I pay much less than this for (obviously) fully private treatment here, and, at least as far as I can tell, the treatment is top notch. In fact, I believe many tourists leave dental checks/treatment until they come here on holiday...Vonny wrote:I can't believe the price of just a check up on the NHS these days![]()

Re: Dentists
Its certainly the fact that one could have at least have been prevented and others not been such major fillings that is annoying me! £90 for 1 filling because its a deep one! I am having them done in stages, so the worst 2 first then i shall leave the others for a little bit...i have had no form of toothache anything so should survive a bit longer!

So I wonder which is cheaper - the NHS or the air fare to Thailand? Probably not much in it!

Re: Dentists
I was delighted to read Vonny's post about a Wisdom Tooth at Thirty -something.
Wisdom at that young age ? you must be joking !
My babies are 55 and 50, and I don't think they have achieved it yet !
Now watch out for incoming fire from anybody under 80 !
I don't suppose there are many OBs alive to support me --- ah well, back to the Horlicks !

Re: Dentists
Thankfully, I'm exempt from charges, as this course of treatment would be costing me an arm and a leg ! Age is catching up, and it looks like some bridge-work is going to be needed.
I think dentists these days fall into the same category as solicitors when it comes to charges !

The big question is, will I get another 3 or just the one! No signs of any more yet!

Re: Dentists
I don't have any. When I was in the US my dentist sauid I should have them removed as they could cause trouble in later life. Cosmopolitan just that month had said that if you had no trouble by 30 (I was 37) you wouldn't have any trouble (Vonny!!!). Then when he x-rayed me I had only 28 teeth. He thinks that in my top jaw they are erupted wisdom teeth and I am missing my back molars, and on the bottom I have no wisdom teeth. I will have to ask my kids (20 and 23) if their teeth have come through.

Re: Dentists
I had my bottom wisdom teeth extracted three years ago and it wasn't nearly as traumatic as I expected. They hadn't come through, but the dentist said that xrays showed they had really nasty roots and would be a b*gger to deal with if they flared up suddenly at any time. Best to have them out as a precaution, she said. I had to have conscious sedation (they do this in dental surgeries instead of GAs these days) and that was a seriously weird experience. But it wasn't painful and I recovered quickly.
