..... Jan and I have a very sick computer, hence my limited visits to the site.

The Doctor, a friend of youngest daughter has called and diagnosed an almost incurable and potentially terminal disease caused by old age and much abuse.

Jan has decided that we are getting a new all singin', all dancin' machine which is on order and will be with us in about ten days, which will then mean more time to transfer SELECTED files across to the new 20" F/S beauty !

Please be gentle with me during this time.

Oh JR ........ may the best man win - and it will probably be the computer! I am currently doing battle with my Norton 360. It is supposed to cover two computers. I have renewed it on my laptop (with a lot of help from my sin-in-law) and therefore paid for the renewal, but I cannot work out how to do it on this PC on the same account, so I am constantly being told that I am no longer covered. When I hit 'Renew' it refuses to connect, and no doubt if I start from scratch it will charge me all over again! I also have about the house various old computers with things on the hard drive which I do not want to lose, but seem to have no way of transferring them, because they are on a computer with no CD etc drive, and the latest one has no floppy disk drive. I did buy a floppy disk drive to add to 'new' computer, but have been unable to persuade anyone to instal it. Bring back the quill pen ........ please!

You have my deepest sympathy Frances. I believe that on another thread there has been much anguish about Norton. I tried to get rid of it with no success until the sudden death of my hard disk. I called in one of the local wizzkids, who for £80 took away the computer, put in a new hard drive, tranferred almost everything (except Norton) to the new one and included a free anti virus thingy. The main difference is that now it is twice as fast as before. HOORAY FOR WIZZ KIDS.

Frances,if your old computers will connect to the internet then could you email the files to yourself? Or if they are modern enough to have USB ports you could use a memory stick. It is often possible to take a disk out of a computer and connect it temporarily to the new computer, but that takes confidence, and a disregard for possible disasters.

I have 3 old computers in the house, not because I want the data on them, but because I feel sure I will think of a use for them.

No, it was not a typo! Steve is the father of my grand-daughter Millie; he and my daughter Kirri have been together now for many years but are not actually married, so I use the term sin-in-law to distinguish from my son-in-law Jarmo who is actually married to my other daughter Maria. By disabling ALL my e-mail programmes, it seems I have SLOW access to the Internet, so I'm not completely cut off from the outside world. A pain in the butt when I have to keep in constant touch with footy team/Committee members.

Incidently, we use IncrediMail and last week upgraded from IncrediMail XE to IncrediMail 2. Somehow this has caused conflicts on the HD, and even IncrediMail now admit there MAY be a problem on older puters.

Even by deleting all relevant files, and starting again has failed to solve the problem.

In the short term, I have borrowed a tower from a mate of youngests daughter, so I can try and keep up to date as ours has gone to that big giga-byte in the sky !

The new baby should arrive later this week, and when thats up and running, I'll ask those of you who have me e-mail address to send me a test as I cannot access my e-mail address book any more.

One of my Sons-Rupert has been Married -- longer than I have --- (To TBA !) and the other, Marcus, has a Parttner -- Julia (To avoid mis-understanding) who has given him a second Son -- Joshua, to match his 21-year old Son Kerry.(When married to Karen)

NOW what title do we give Julia ? --- She ain't a Son or Sin --- Suggestions ?

Just to let you know ----

Sunday was our 34th Wedding Anniversary and we decided to worship in my Church (Cof E rather than The Blessed Anne's (Baptist ) -- this want very well, and since my church is having an Africa Week, there were extra "Contributions" towards a Tear Fund project. in addition to Direct Debits.
NOW, because of this, I distinctly remember pulling my Wallet, from my Hip Pocket, to extract a note, also I paid for Our Coffee and Biscuits, after the Service (V. civilised Church !) with my loose change, in a purse.

This Morning LO ! Both are missing !!!!! Shock Horror and phone calls to report the loss, which included, not only Credit and Debit Cards , but Driving Licence, Trade Union Life Membership, Political Mwmbership Etc. Etc. Etc.

We spent the whole Morning in Gloom and Despondency, having searched the House, in case they were mislaid, but to no effect.

After Lunch --- about 2 pm TBA appears with a smug look and the missing articles ------ having found them at the bottom of the Washing Basket------- Where I had deposited them, on changing after Church --- I had obviously gathered them up with Shirt, Socks and Pants and dumped the lot in --- to be washed !

I am not a silly old Fool ---- What am I not ?

I am not a --------- All together now ----- !!!!

I am, however Blessed with a Child Bride of 70 !
