If G.B. is struggling to find the ever increasing cost of hosting 2012, what in the he*l's chance has Rio got to pay for it ?

I still say we will, (not me, I hasten to add), still be paying for the London venues in 50 years time.

All a waste of money in my view. Money that could well be spent on more worthwhile things like education and health !

Was not a large part of our bid for the London Olympics a pledge to improve the physical fitness of the youth of today/tomorrow? So there you have it, JR - education and health in one package! If we could cope financially with the 'austerity Games' in 1948, we should also be able to do so now?

Over to you, Maria - a chance to educate this lot in the benefits of 'Olympisme'! (Maria once started to study for a Master's in something to do with the cultural aspects of the Olympic Games - it didn't get finished, but I bet she still has a fund of information at her fingertips about it.)

Apparently, many people in East Ham say they already have the winner of the 100 meters.

Allegedly, he can do that distance down the High Street in under 9 seconds with a hand-bag in one hand and mobile phone in the other !

TBA and I were staying in one of my Cousin's flats in Menton (Turkey Farmers !)
It was in the warren of alleyways rising from the Med. and an old lady came out on her balcony screaming with delight, in totally unintelligible French and clapping her hands with glee.
"What Gives ? " I asked, and I was told that she had just heard on the Radio that London had got the Olympics.
Why so pleased ? ---- What the Blue Blazes had a Paris Olynpics got to do with Menton ---- other than TAXES !
You could understand her point ! :D
