Don't think anyone needs to live to the extent that they spend that much money. But I guess I'm not one to judge. And is it before or after tax?

Exactly. It totally depends on where you stand (metaphorically of course). If you are earning Â£500K a year then he is getting chicken feed - how on earth can he keep body and could together? OTOH our ex-copper probably couldn't think how to use half that sort of money - seriously.

It also depends on the cause. Some years ago I did a small job. It paid US$120 per hour, 9am to 5pm local time, double outside those hours. The hopurly rate applied at times when I was not in a position to freely do what I wanted - so travelling time was charged (as were all expenses at cost).
Bearing in mind that I did about 80K air miles and was at times working 5am until past midnight, sometimes seven days a week the bill was a bit high - 7 figures high in about 4 months! On top of that, the risks! half a dozen nasty tropical diseases starting from malaria (got that) upwards, mugging - only 4 times so far .....

I can hear the screams, but just think - that was an "invisible export", benefitting the UK economy and helping to produce the dollars or yen used to buy your Japanese TV or tropical fruit. How much did I personally receive from all that? A couple of days off, not included as holiday. The customer made well into 9 figures of profit (and did give me a holiday).

Before shouting just think about what the money earns. I have neighbours who were on high salaries and, after the age of 35 will never be physically capable of working again, will be on downers and uppers for the rest of their lives .... You pay for what you get, you often get paid for what you put into the job.

Envy's got f*ck all to do with it !

My wife had to give up working in the mental health field when she developed the early signs of MS.

The NHS managed to botch two operations on me, one to the right shoulder and one to the left hand which resulted in me contracting MRSA.

Consequently, we now have to live on state hand outs and a small pension I receive.

Our TOTAL monthly income NEVER exceeds Â£600, or Â£7,200 per annum. OK, there are certain other benefits such as council tax and rent rebate, and hey - We get free bus passes.

The family of Abu (The Hook) Hamza, even though he is awaiting extradition are eligible for over Â£1,000 a month in benefits.

If you think I'm talking envy, I suggest you age a little and reflect on how this country treats the people who have given the best part of their lives to serve it.

I suppose you'll be calling for the abolition of Rememberance Sunday next !

I might consider joining the Tories if I could earn that much ... And btw my job has no financial security, statutory holidays or Christmas dinners thrown in (apart from the one I cook myself, as my dear husband kindly pointed out).
